5 Things Christians Should Know
“But we received not the spirit of the world,
but the spirit which is from God;
that we might know the things that were
freely given to us of God.”
1 Corinthians 2:12
God always wins. The world gets its glory from broadcasting all it has the right, the will, and the resources to do. It is similar to the days of Judges 21:25, where “...every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” Whenever purity, spiritual actions, or holiness are suppressed, it appears as though ungodliness and deception prevails. Even in Revelation 6:9-10, the martyred saints cried out, “How long, O Master, the holy and true, dost Thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?” God does prevail, He is the victor. He delivered “all them through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” (Hebrews 2:15) by the death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus said, “but take heart, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). If God wins over death, He can help me win over all things which oppose Him (Romans 8:31-39).
God is still in control. No one has the key to day and night except God. No one understands the functions of the human better than its creator - God. No one has the power to cease the change of the seasons or prevent the rain from falling. No one has the wind under his command except God. Therefore, we praise and exalt the hands of God, which can “do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:20).
God will provide all we need. Israel needed to cross the Red Sea to escape the Egyptian army, and Moses told Israel, “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of Jehovah” (Exodus 14:13). David said, “I have been young, and now am old; Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread” (Psalm 37:25). The apostle Paul was comforted by God’s care for him and others saying, “And my God shall supply every eed of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). When life faces times of uncertainty, Jesus told us worry should not be the first response, but rather “seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, and all things will be added unto you” (Matthew 6:25-34).
God has work for us to do. We were never born to be served. To serve is why Jesus came, and the mission is no different for us (Matthew 20:26-28; Ephesians 2:10). Each person has the responsibility to live soberly, godly, and righteously in this present world (Titus 2:11-12). It is our place in life to make our calling and election sure (2 Peter 1:10). Teach others life is not about what they want, it is about pleasing God. This is the function of faith (Hebrews 11:6). Faith with works is where blessings come from - not from faith alone.
God never changes. “Lord, Thou hast been our dwelling-place in all generations...even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God” (Psalm 90:1-2). God has been man’s help in ages past and will be for ages to come. Whether the need was a shelter in time of storm or light at the end of the tunnel, whether it was defense against evil or providential care through the day, God has been there. Whenever fear wants to dominate our hearts, God offers comfort, peace, and hope instead. Whatever today and the future has in mind, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yea and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
