More About Jesus (33)

The apostles and others thought they knew who Jesus was in Matthew 16:14-15. Peter definitely did by saying Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God (v. 16). Hardly a year goes by without someone writing about Jesus in a book or making a documentary about Him. The number of movies produced about Jesus are more than the years of His life on earth. There is only one way to know the Master Teacher and Savior of the world - read about Him in the word He left for us to read (John 20:30-31).

Giving the words of Jesus the opportunity to speak about Him says more than we could ever write about Him ourselves. The words we write are more about how He has impacted us, the world, the past, the present, and the future. Letting Him speak for Himself, we find four reasons why we need to know more about who Jesus is:

  1. He offers and gives what man cannot (2 Peter 1:2-4). What mortal man can offer remission of sins, give life eternal, and provide the proper elements of godliness that keep us away from lusts?
  2. Knowing Him is to be like Him (Romans 8:29; 1 Corinthians 11:1). The more you are associated with the person you love, the more you start to think and behave alike. Our closest needs to Him asks, “What would Jesus do?”
  3. Knowing Him is to love Him (Matthew 22:37). Jesus hated what disturbs us. He exalted what we forget should be a priority. He was compassionate and firm. Knowing Him, we can see His way is best.
  4. Knowing Him takes us to be with Him (2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23). Who else can provide life after this one?
