Keeping Your Faith Alive (48)
Let all the inhabitants of the world
stand in awe of Him.
Psalm 33:8
Awe is not to be viewed as a feeling. Regarding God, awe should be considered a majestic manner of respect and praise. God is worthy of every ounce of praise we can give. At any moment or on any day, God should be given honor He richly deserves. This praise of God brings Him closer to us with the understanding He is near to us (Acts 17:27-28).
The Athenians gave praise in Acts 18 to a lot of gods. Various images represented every imaginable need man had from crop success to the air breathed. They were all lifeless, stone-faced images, created by man for man. They were given a name by man for the selfish wishes man could or would want. As a result, man’s faith was in an image he made. If the god he made failed him, he would be disgusted and lose faith. Faith would be lost in what man made for himself. Consequently, would he not also lose faith in himself?
Why not then come closer to God? Adore Him. Thank Him. Praise Him. Honor Him. Worship Him in the way He desires. Faith will then change directions from man to God. Sing to Him and pray to Him. It will cause you to lose track of what you want and give control and direction to what God desires for you. Faith will then hold to God, not yourself.
Why stroke your ego with your own fantasies and expectations? Extend praise to the God of truth, righteousness, and holiness. It will change you from the inside to the outside. The power will no longer be within you but outside you. Your trust will be in God where faith should be all the while.
Surely the righteous will praise Your name,
and the upright shall dwell in Thy presence.
Psalm 140:13
