"The Lion Standing By The Body"
It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the mouth of Jehovah.
1 Samuel 13:26
Driving down the road, you will occasionally see the dead carcass of an animal. It represents what an animal does not understand. No matter how swift an animal may be, it does not always escape the punishment of crossing a highway. Animals suffer from not understanding the laws of crossing a road in front of a moving vehicle. Animals do not know if you step out in front of an automobile traveling down the road, there is no escape of injury or death.
Some people have tried similar actions with wild animals. They go out into the forest or woodlands where these animals live and are killed by a fierce predator. Those who find the individual stand over the body wondering why this person was there among wild animals. Were they unprepared fro what might happen?
A lion killed a young prophet because of disobedience to the voice of God. This was what was told to the men in the city who saw the lion standing by the prophet’s body. The evidence was clear. The man was no match for the lion. The dead body revealed the power of the lion was greater than the power of the man.
You know him “as the roaring lion, walking about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). It is Satan. How many people has Satan slain, and, after destroying them with temptation after temptation, stands by their body of sin? As people walk by, they notice the tragedy. They see how sin has engulfed the life of the one who has fallen “dead in trespasses and sin” (Ephesians 2:1-3). What could those who see this “death” think about the soul who has come against a power greater than he could withstand? Was he not prepared? Did he not expect this would be the result once he yielded to the first temptation? What will others think of him now? Some will understand why all this happened. This person was disobedient unto the mouth of Jehovah. Do not allow yourself to become the next victim (Ephesians 6:10-17)!
