Do You Have An "App" For That?
Apply your heart to instruction,
and your ears to words of knowledge.
Proverbs 23:12
Remember when phones were for making phone calls? When the smart phone was invented, no longer did it only make phone calls, it became a storehouse of all kinds of functions and data. It became a device to add “applications” (computer programs) where you could access the Internet to read sports reports, play games, plan trips, find an apartment, or any number of over 100,000 other tasks available with an “app.” With what this amazing invention has become in the hands of its owners, it has also become an “attachment” to those who possess one.
With all the amazing uses these “apps” for phones provide us, nothing compares with the kind of “apps” Scripture gives us. The “applications” of the Bible are direct notes from God telling us how to apply the truth of his Word to all of life.
Take Philippians 2, for instance: The unity app is found in Philippians 2:2. The humility app is in Philippians 2:3. The no-grumbling app is in Philippians 2:14. The shine-your-light app is in Philippians 2:15.
Look at the apps in Ephesians 5: There is the imitate-God app in Ephesians 5:1. The walk-in-love app is Ephesians 5:2. The purity app is found in Ephesians 5:3. The tongue app is in Ephesians 5:4,6. The morality app is in Ephesians 5:5,7.
If you look in the book of Proverbs, you will find thousands of apps to obtain knowledge, understanding, justice, wisdom, discretion, counsel, learning, etc.
You do not have to wait for someone to offer these on the Internet or your smart phone. Just open the Bible and see the hundreds of ways to apply Scripture in your life. If you have a question about how to do, live, say, believe, or think, it is there in the Bible. Use you search capabilities. It is called reading. The answers are there in the Bible, waiting to be discovered. There is an app just for you. Read it and apply it!
