More About Jesus (23)
The obligations of putting on Christ in baptism (Romans 6:3-6; Galatians 3:27) are like placing a cloak upon our bodies. The beauty of holiness lives upon us. We are said to be the “image of Christ” (Romans 8:29). This means Jesus enfolds every believer. This is not a protective blanket from the outside elements, but an adornment of character. It is an apparel in which the world will view our beliefs through our behavior.
Jesus is not “put on” when the time is right, when it is convenient, or just in times when troubles come upon us. He is a robe we put on every day we wake up. In every relationship we have, Jesus is to be “on us.” There is not a place we can go where Jesus can be “put off.” Although Jesus is “put on” at baptism, it is consistent to say the process of putting on our Lord is a daily effort to establish what God create us to be “in righteousness and holiness of truth” (Ephesians 4:24).
