Keeping Your Faith Alive (31)
There are so many things parents will tell their children about their generation or the one before them. The most valuable stories we can tell them are those stories of faith found in Scripture. How many have you told your children? The memory of God needs to be kept alive. It is time we pass the baton of faith to the next generation.
God wanted the parents of Israel to remember Him and tell the next generation about him. They were told to model their faith before the next generation (Deuteronomy 6:3-6). They were to give instructions from God diligently to their children (Deuteronomy 6:7). These parents were told to take the time to discuss these spiritual objectives with their children (Deuteronomy 6:7)...
There was a reason for these admonitions for the parents of Israel. The first reason is for their children to know God’s intentions. It is good for a child to know what a parent’s intentions are, but the most important lesson for a child is to understand God’s intentions. Moses said it was to “preserve us alive” (Deuteronomy 6:24). God does not want any to perish (2 Peter 3:9). The preservation of our souls is important to God. You and your child need to know the value God has placed upon your souls. Until it is important to the parent, the child will not see its importance or the need to preserve it.
Secondly, God wanted the children to learn to act responsibly. Intentions are good, but God desires “we observe to do all this commandment before Jehovah our God” (Deuteronomy 5:25). All children need parents to teach them of the responsibilities to God, the faith to act, and how to keep that faith alive...
