What Is The Reason?
What reasons would you give young people or a young couple to abstain from sex until marriage? Here are a few...
Spiritual reasons. It is protection from the sin of fornication, which is against one’s own body (1 Corinthians 6:18). God’s judgment is severe upon fornicators and adulterers (Hebrews 13:4).
Physical reasons. The danger of disease and unwanted pregnancy is ever present from the indiscretion of sex before marriage.
Emotional reasons. Sex before marriage has a host of emotional pitfalls like guilt, addiction, low self-esteem, shame, depression, and isolation. Add to this list the misguided information that sex before marriage is love, when in reality it is a fulfillment of lust.
Moral reasons. What kind of relationship is one that depends on sex to keep it going? Where is the commitment to purity and holiness? Many advocate “being responsible” with sex as a means of promoting “protection.” Being responsible with sex is abstinence before marriage (1 Corinthians 7:1-5).
