More About Jesus (16)
Rejection is not an accepted guest. It surprises us when those we hoped would receive us turn away.
The rejection of Jesus came as no surprise to the prophets who foretold of his coming. Isaiah said Jesus would be “despised and rejected of men” (Isaiah 53:3). Jesus told of his rejection in Luke 4:24: “No prophet is acceptable in his own country.” The reality of his rejection was made clear in John 1:11: “He came unto his own and they that were his own received him not.”
“His humility was an offense to their worldliness and pride; His holy character was a rebuke to their formality; and his life of benevolence was a rebuke to their selfishness and haughtiness” (Pulpit).
