Obedience & Eternal Life
It is easy to miss heaven. Although we may speak a lot about eternal life, not everyone who calls upon the Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 7:21).
Heaven is waiting on me to have an attitude and action that is like the image of Jesus, the Son of God, who is already in heaven. If my conduct is not good, how could I consider myself on the road to eternal bliss? John 5:28,29 says all people are raised to life or condemnation depending on whether they did good or did evil.
How long is obedience necessary? Will there ever come a point where I will not need to have self-control, Bible study, or giving? Romans 2:7 says eternal life will be for those who are patient in well-doing. My life in Christ is one enduring effort to hear, believe, and obey what is my duty to do (Luke 17:10) however long that may be. If eternal life is forever, surely I can be obedient for a “little while” down here.
