What Do You Give The Person Who Has Everything?

Trying to decide what to get someone who has “everything” is difficult. Everyone should realize God has already given “every good and perfect gift” (James 1:17). No gift you or I give to anyone will exceed what God has already given. Whatever gift we give others, the blessing from such a gift is felt more by the giver than the receiver of the gift (Acts 20:35).

There are some gifts each of us already give or need to give which not only please God, but are a welcomed “present” by those who receive them. What you can give someone who has everything is…

1.  Your best. Marriage is not a 50/50 arrangement. 100% is the expected gift each spouse should give. Until both people in marriage do so, their marriage will never be truly fulfilling. Even your employer should not expect anything less than the best you can give (Colossians 3:23,24).

2.  Attention. Mary gave Jesus her undivided attention when He came to her house (Luke 10:39). Jesus said, “He that has ears let him hear” (Matthew 11:15). Giving someone attention is a gift many people have on their “wish lists,” especially God.

3.  Apology.I have sinned…” is the first thing the prodigal son wanted to say to his father the next time he saw him (Luke 15:18). An apology is just the gift some people need to heal their relationships with God and others.

4. Presence. Jesus told His apostles, “...I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20). He said the same to us (Hebrews 13:5). So many suicide victims wished for presence, but no one was there. God wants your presence the next time the church building doors open (Hebrews 10:25).
