Some People Are Better Than Others
Yes! Not in worth but in character.
Matthew 16:26 teaches the soul of every person is worth more than the entire material universe. This being true, every person’s soul is of immeasurable and equal value. Because of what different people choose to believe and do, God views some people as “better” than others. Note some of the people God looked upon as “better”:
“It is better to take refuge in Jehovah than to put confidence in man.” - Psalm 118:8
“Better is a little with the fear of Jehovah, than great treasure and trouble therewith.” - Proverbs 15:16
“Better is it to be of a lowly spirit with the poor, than to divide the spoil with the proud.” - Proverbs 16:19
“That which maketh a man to be desired is his kindness; and a poor man is better than a liar.” - Proverbs 19:22
“Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.” - Proverbs 28:6
“Better is a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king, who knoweth not how to receive admonition any more.” - Ecclesiastes 4:13
These and other passages teach that God views those who do His will as “better” than those who do not. While God is no “respecter of persons,” no evaluating people on the basis of social standing, race, intelligence, wealth, or physical appearance, He is most definitely a respecter of character (Psalm 1).
