God's Word: The Message Of The Times

What ONE book deals with the  problem of abortion, gambling, murder, prostitution, theft, adultery, forgery, depression, drunkenness, embezzlement, drugs, war, domestic violence, child abuse, money woes, religious differences, suicide, fear, and death? No book deals with these and other problems of our time better than the Book of books - God’s Word. His “words shall never pass away” (Matthew 24:35). His word contains “all things (not some) that pertain to life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3). God’s message to man came by His marvelous grace. It gives man the necessary ingredients to make him sober, righteous, godly, and complete (Titus 2:11,12; 2 Timothy 3:16,17).

Oftentimes, people look for new ways to cure problems, or they wait for some special revelation or vision from God to solve all the world’s problems. A wise, aged Christian once wrote to a young Christian about how one might deal with the “last days” when “grievous times shall come” (2 Timothy 4:2). He said, “preach the word; be urgent in season, out of season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” (2 Timothy 4:2). With every new generation comes the need for the same message. God’s proclamations are powerful enough to deal with any problem of any generation. That is why the Bible needs to be taken seriously.

When a person reads 2 Timothy 4:3,4, he will notice some leaving God’s word and turning their ears toward “teachers after their own lusts” (v. 3). Is that not a “sign-of-the-times”? The majority of messages presented today to a lost world have one tenth or less Bible and nine tenths to one hundred percent man-made ideas. Trying to socially reform man is what people today feel America needs. Church leaders feel the same way. Therefore, they will lead a church in the building of kitchens, gyms, pools, exercise rooms, and family life buildings.

The only way to grow in favor with God and man is to be about the Father’s business (Luke 2:49,52). There is no other way to re-create man and eliminate the problems of today than by the power of the cross (1 Corinthians 1:18). Search no more for the answer to today’s problems in the ideas and philosophies of man’s wisdom. Let your faith stand “in the power of God” (1 Corinthians 2:5).
