Keeping Your Faith Alive (14)
“Stop and smell the roses” is a familiar saying suggesting we stop and observe what surrounds us. We get so busy. Life goes swiftly by us. We fail to smell, taste, feel, hear, see, and think.
Our faith is based upon what we hear. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). Faith helps us “feel after and find him” (Acts 17:27). We also believe in God because we see “the things that are made” (Romans 1:20). Our conviction of God is established when we “have tasted that the Lord is gracious” (1 Peter 2:3). We also build our faith through gifts we bestow upon others which sends forth “an odor of a sweet smell, a sacrifice, well-pleasing unto God” (Philippians 4:15-18). It is these senses which keep our thoughts “into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Although everything about us should have a sense for God, have we trained our senses in God? Every sense is based upon training. Hopefully our training of what is good and evil comes from partaking of the milk and meat of the word of God (Hebrews 5:12-14). If we do, our faith will grow and mature. We will establish our hope, and we will be seeking God for the proper way we should feel, think, hear, see, smell, and taste...
