Keeping Your Faith Alive (9)

The Bible gives the analogy of Christians to “newborn babes” which “long for the spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation” (1 Peter 2:2). Were you not saved by baptism? If so, then why does he say Christians are babes growing “unto salvation”? It’s because you are not full-grown. You are still growing in your relationship with God.

An interesting factor is how dissimilar your spiritual growth is from your spiritual growth. You physically grow up without stopping until you have reached “full growth”. With spiritual growth, you sometimes take one step forward and two steps backward. It is because you yielded to a temptation. And the difference in growing and not growing in faith is what you desire. Do you desire God or yourself??

As a Christian, you are accountable for how you look on the “growth chart”. Are you measuring yourself by Jesus (Ephesians 4:13) or by others (2 Corinthians 10:12)? To keep your faith alive, commit yourself to spiritual growth. Attend Bible study. Pray daily. Listen to spiritual hymns. Be with spiritual people. Attend worship services. Attend gospel meetings. Read the Bible with your family. Remove yourself from the distractions of the world. Teach a Bible class. Know the Lord. Trust God.
