Thinking For Yourself
“Free thinkers” are people who usually form their own opinion about religion separate and apart from tradition, authority, or some established belief. Is that the type of thinking represented in the Bible?
Seldom do you find men and women whose hearts are good, honest, and open; hearts that determine truth based upon the facts. Instead of planting yourself religiously in the traditions of your parents or relying upon “trained” theologians, teachers, or preachers, understand the scriptures yourself. According to Ephesians 5:17, everyone can. “Wherefore be ye not foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
I doubt anyone desires to be foolish. No one begs to be ignorant and unlearned. To avoid ignorance and prejudice, those in Berea were determined to know and understand for themselves when they “received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the scriptures daily, whether these things were so.” (Acts 17:11)
Pay close attention to what Jesus says in John 5:39,40: “Search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me; and ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.”
Do not be gullible to believe everything you hear! Make sure it is from God. You have the right to test it and yourself (2 Corinthians 13:5). YOU need to daily examine what is said. Your salvation is on the line my friend (Philippians 2:12). Know the truth (John 8:32).
