God Sees Your Work!
Football has become much more than just a sport today! It has produced some our biggest celebrities, people known around the world! Children dream of growing up to be great football stars…but what are they really dreaming about? They are dreaming bout becoming the next Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. They want to be Jerry Rice or Terrell Owens. They have aspirations of playing like Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith. What do these men all have in common? They were some of the best in some of the best positions. But when was the last time you heard a football child say, “I hope to be the next Patrick Mannelly!”?
That’s because Mannelly was possibly one of the greatest longs nappers to play in the NFL. That’s a position that doesn’t get much love…and that’s kind of what makes them so great. Their job is to get the ball to the punter or the holder for field goal attempt. When they mess up, it usually goes sideways hard! Yet, they get little to no love from fans! They aren’t on the covers of magazines. They don’t sell sports drinks. They rarely get any recognition or thanks for their work…but without them, their teams would be in a terrible position!
That’s what servants do! The thankless work that is necessary. They see people who are unruly, fainthearted, and weak, and they work in their lives. They look for the sick and the hurting to provide comfort and healing. They get dirty, they take hits, they shake it off and start looking for the next task.
That’s hard work, and if you have ever felt like that work wasn’t worth it, read the words of Jesus in Luke 18.1-8.
Jesus understands what it is like to serve without thanks! He knows what it is like to be crucified for the service he provided. And, Jesus wants you to know that you are seen, your prayers are heard, and God will make things right one day! Thanks will be given. A reward is waiting for you. The question Jesus has is this…When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?
I pray that he will find us working and waiting at his return! Whether you are the QB, the long snapper, or the left tackle…whether you get the attention or go unnoticed…God sees your work! Let us work hard for our Master and not give up!
