Doctrinal Unity

If a preacher stepped into the pulpit one Sunday and preached that the Bible says that Jesus is the only way to salvation, then on the following Sunday preached that one could be saved by Jesus and by the prophet Muhammad, would that be okay?

What if this same preacher preached one Sunday that the Bible says that marriage is only between a man and a woman, then on the following Sunday preached that the Bible says that two people of the same sex could marry? Would that be okay?

What if this same preacher preached one Sunday that the Bible says that baptism is only by immersion, then on the following Sunday preached that the Bible says that baptism can be by immersion or by sprinkling or pouring? Would that be okay?

What if this same preacher preached one Sunday that the Bible says that instrumental music is authorized, then on the following Sunday preached that instrumental music is not authorized? Would that be okay?

What would people think of a preacher who contradicted himself in the pulpit? Would that encourage people to place their trust in God? If not, then why is okay for different preachers to contradict one another in the pulpit in what they declare that the Bible says?

On baptism…on marriage…on instrumental music…on how a sinner is saved from sin:

  • Does that encourage people to place their trust in God?
  • Does the Bible teach one man immersion only and another immersion, pouring, or sprinkling in addition?
  • Does God’s word contradict itself?

The apostle Paul warned, “Don’t think of men above what is written” (1 Corinthians 4.6).

Jesus warned, “Take heed what ye hear” (Mark 4.24). “Take heed how ye hear” (Luke 8.18).
