"I Can't Complain"

The man who says, “I can’t complain” just lacks imagination. You can always find something to gripe about, but we all have plenty for which to be thankful. It is definitely true that the thankful person is always the one who believes they got the best deal. How many have that attitude? Most do not.

Philippians 2:14,15 says, “Do all things without murmurings and questionings, that ye may become blameless and harmless…” No complainer is either harmless or blameless. He is either calculating what bad has happened or the bad which will happen; how much is owed him or how much will be owed to him. Where can appreciation squeeze into a heart like that?

In many things, we have no choice about what happens, but we do have a choice about what happens in us. If you ever give up being and showing appreciation, it is because you gave up thinking about it (Philippians 4:8).

God is the giver of every good gift (James 1:17). Learning to see the goodness of His gifts and give proper thanks for them is one of our greatest needs in life. Besides God, we need to give thanks to all the other human beings around us who do so many wonderful things for us. We do not live in this world alone. We have to have the help of others, and we need to be willing to acknowledge that help.

NOW and from NOW ON is the time we need to spend in appreciation, not complaining. You can do that by (1) paying more attention to the present moment. (2) Use the present moment. Do not throw it away. (3) Appreciate the present moment. Never underestimate the uniqueness of each moment. What grace God sends your way right now is giving you the opportunity to serve Him. Will you or will you complain?
